hi there, sorry to be a numpty... i am trying to record audio streams from samurai.fm's standalone media player, i'm not sure what codec they are. i
have tried using URLsnooper2 to find it but to no avail. i have tried viewing all URL's not just media ones and my network adaptor is fine... streamboxVCR2
is also not showing the right URL's for samurai.fm.

Try Orbit Downloader. It's an flv file (with aac audio) streamed through the rtmp protocol.

AAC audio in flash files is relatively new so I guess many players and converters may not support it yet. Standalone FLV Players and MPlayer seem to work fine.
I'm not really familiar with MPlayer but I understand it can convert everything it's able to play.

Try SMPlayer:
http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/ If you have experience with command line tools you can convert the file to wav or extract the raw aac stream. http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/menc-feat-dvd-mpeg4.html#menc-feat-dvd-mpeg4-audio |

actually, mencoder wont do audio only files easily
find the win32 ffmpeg and do ffmpeg -i file.m4a output.mp3 |

You have to use mplayer.exe, not mencoder.

thanks... i will try SMPlayer. having used orbit to succesfully download the FLV audio files i am having trouble listening to them or converting them to
MP3's. is this because they are protected? an example file is:
hardfloor_20080722_hi.m4a (incidentally) i just tried to play the file: radioactiveman_growl_20080722_hi.m4a with SMPlayer but it crashed! The file may be corrupted, sometimes Orbit downloads rtmp streams without a proper flv header.
As for a converter, WinFF seems to do the job. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/WinFF/ |

thanks kron, tried using winFF to convert the m4a.flv files but it didn't work. is it a dead end? trying to convert rtmp_flv streams? the files on my HD
are the right size, does that mean i have the file but just can't access it (as it's write-protected) or has it phantom downloaded?

If standalone flv players don't work either then it's definitely Orbit to blame. Try updating to the latest version or a different rtmp downloader.
If nothing works, since you're re-encoding anyway, then I guess you could always use a software like Audacity to record the audio directly from your sound card. Although this can be inconvenient since recording must be done in real time and any other sound going on in your pc is also recorded. |

Orbit Downloader seems doesn't work anymore for this site. Any other ideas to get m4a?
Edited: It's working like charm... Just Grab++ needs to be activated before launching player.
